Dentures and Partials

Dentures and partials can help restore your smile after your teeth have been lost to decay, injury, or periodontal disease. Dentures and partials are custom-made prosthetics designed to fit comfortably in your mouth and jaw so you can eat, speak, and chew normally again.

When considering dentures and partials, be sure to take time to get your questions answered by your dentist to ensure you get the best results possible.

Type Of Dentures

Full Dentures
Dentures are a full-arch removable replacement for missing teeth. They’re held in place by creating a suction against your gum tissues. Full dentures, also referred to as "plates", replace all of your upper or lower teeth at one time. There are also variations of dentures that can be affixed on top of dental implants for added stability, such as overdentures/implant-stabilised dentures.

Since dentures restore all of the teeth in your arch, you can specify how you would like them to look.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures can replace any missing teeth you have while fitting into place around the natural ones you're able to retain. Getting a partial denture is efficient, simple, and affordable. No extractions are necessary, as each partial is shaped around the healthyteeth you still have.

Your partial denture will be designed to mirror the appearance of neighbouring teeth. That way your smile looks consistent from one side to the other.
Immediate Dentures
Same-day dentures are immediate-load dentures that prevent you from having to go about with missing teeth. If you need to have teeth extracted because of gum disease or extensive decay, we can take impressions ahead of time to plan for a same-day denture delivery.

How to Care for Your Denture

It’s important to take good care of your denture in order to prevent infection. Here are a few tips to keep in mind each day:

  • Remove your denture each night to clean it with a soft brush and lukewarm water.
  • Soak your appliance in an effervescent denture cleanser overnight.
  • Clean the inside of your mouth with a soft washcloth or toothbrush.
  • Brush and floss any remaining teeth.
  • Next morning, rinse your denture well before reinserting it into your mouth.
  • Schedule regular checkups to have your denture inspected.

Normally we recommend using a therapeutic restoration to save your tooth. Such as a root canal, crown, or even gum disease therapy. But if a tooth cannot be restored, the only option that’s left is to remove it before it compromises adjacent teeth.

Implant Denture Options

Looking for a way to stabilise your removable denture? Dental implant variations such as overdentures or implant-supported dentures are also available. These denture variations use 2-4 implants to help support them throughout the day. No denture adhesives or pastes are necessary. Unlike permanent All-on-4 implants, these appliances are still removable.

Denture Relining and Adjustments

Most denture wearers will need to get their dentures relined every year or two, depending on your lifestyle, bone changes, etc. Since our oral anatomy can change over time, semi-regular adjustments and relines will be necessary to keep your dentures comfortably snug.
